City breaks: three of the best

City breaks are as popular as ever and for a long weekend away really cannot be beaten. There are some great RCI Holidays resorts dotted across Europe. And here are some of Europe's truly great cities, with details about the must-sees for when time is at a premium.

Budapest
The capital of Hungary, Budapest is made up of two distinct halves, spanning the great river Danube. There are ample tours to choose from, most of which offer a 48 hour unlimited ticket with a river tour included. When using the hop-on, hop-off tours, places of interest that really should not be missed include Heroes' Square, with its impressive statuary and open spaces, and Matthias Church, offering unparalleled views over the city and the best place to see the Hungarian Parliament buildings in all their glory. And lastly, St. Stephen's Basilica, a beautiful and imposing building that can be enjoyed from one of the cafés surrounding the courtyard, is not to be missed.

Paris
Everyone should visit Paris at least once in their life. This iconic city houses some of Europe's best known landmarks, such as the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe and Notre Dame. The city is fairly easy to traverse and although some of the cafés in the tourist areas can charge an arm and a leg, cheap food and drink can be found in many of the street markets and smaller cafés. Head up the Eiffel Tower for wonderful views over the whole city and take a trip down the Seine to experience a different side of Paris. A shopping trip down the Champs Elyseés is a must, with some wonderful designer boutiques to tempt and impress. Many people now head to one of the outlying areas, staying in one of the RCI Holidays resorts in order to have a base from which to visit the Disneyland Paris parks, but it would be a crime to come here and not experience true Parisian life.

London
Although overlooked by many Brits, London is one of the finest capital cities in Europe. There are so many famous landmarks to see that even a long weekend is never going to be enough to take it all in. The bast thing to do when visiting London is to decide where your interests really lie. If you are interested in the pomp and circumstance of English history, then you need to ensure you visit such iconic sites as the Tower of London and Buckingham Palace. Shoppers will be in heaven in Carnaby Street and Oxford Street, as well as the decidedly upper class Fortnum and Mason's and Harrods. A great view of the city can be had when taking a 'flight' on the London Eye and there are any number of shows to choose from in the West End.

No matter where you choose to visit in Europe, you are sure to find a great RCI Holidays resort at which to make a base. With so many great cities from which to choose, you can spend many happy long weekends travelling across Europe and soaking up the culture of its diverse nations.
