If you’ve been paying the fees for your timeshare, but not using it in the last few years, this is money down the drain. Make it your priority this year to get the most out of your ownership, or re-evaluate how you use it.
Ask yourself why
Think of the reasons why you haven’t been using your holiday ownership recently. If one-off events, such as the birth of a child, divorce, bereavement, illness or change in job or home, have stopped you enjoying it, then decide if you are now in a position to use it again. If the reasons are long-term, and you can’t see yourself using your ownership in the foreseeable future, it might be time to consider other options, such as renting it out, letting family and friends use it, or you may even decide to sell your timeshare.
If the reason you haven’t been making the most of your holiday ownership is due to some aspect of the arrangement that didn’t meet your expectations on the last visit, speak to the hotel or resort manager as soon as you can. They may be able to resolve the situation for you, so that you can get back to enjoying your ownership. You might also be offered an alternative arrangement that suits you better.
Even if there are no specific reasons as to why you have let your holiday ownership linger – perhaps you were just too busy to get flights booked in time – try to get yourself as organised as soon as you can with travel arrangements, so that you have no excuse not to enjoy your property this year. Once you get back into the swing of visiting your holiday ownership, you’ll vow to make the most of it in subsequent years.
Know your options
In many cases, owners don’t make the most of their holiday property because they want a change. Perhaps they want to visit somewhere new; to experience a different type of holiday; or to take breaks at different time of year. Being tied down to a specific week or destination can be a burden for some owners, but if you find yourself in this situation, it’s always worth researching whether you have any other options.
Your contract might offer you more flexibility than you realise. You might be able to change your times or your destination through an exchange company such as RCI, ensuring that you still make the most of your ownership arrangement whilst enjoying new holiday experiences.
When it’s time to sell
If your holiday ownership has become more of a burden than a joy, or your circumstances have changed so that you really can’t see yourself using it in the future, then it may be time to sell up. If this is the case, why not talk to the experts here at SellMyTimeshare.tv.
